That it had the unique Robert Morton bench in the early photos is also convincing. It seems like all the pictures of the Morton organs include 25 black keys on each keyboard, with 2 black keys at one end of the console and 3 black keys at the other end of the console...except for the very last pic of the organ in the 20k exhibit. There, it seems to have 2 black keys at both ends of the console, and a strange solitary black key in the middle, so that there are still a total of 25 black keys on each keyboard. It is difficult to see details of the keyboard in the 20k set photo, but it looks like that keyboard ends with 3 black keys on the right, as do the keyboards in the Haunted Mansion and other 20k exhibit pics. I wonder why they might have changed the keyboard for a period of time during the 20k exhibit, and if they did, why it would seem to be such an atypical layout.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4444762441887107389.post-6347426281550057292017-05-08T10:54:02.560-07:002017-05-08T10:54:02.560-07:00Someone sent a link to a very detailed article abo...Someone sent a link to a very detailed article about the original 20K Leagues organ, with more info and photos:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/217423175094625/permalink/217461505090792/HBG2https://www.blogger.com/profile/05073387557562504315noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4444762441887107389.post-42710740173897041542014-05-14T22:14:33.657-07:002014-05-14T22:14:33.657-07:00I believe I found your photo of the 20K organ with...I believe I found your photo of the 20K organ with the tabs still in place. Just curious, but what is it about the console that positively identifies it as a Morton rather than a Wurlitzer (or some other make)?HBG2https://www.blogger.com/profile/05073387557562504315noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4444762441887107389.post-91344429863516597452014-05-14T05:27:18.126-07:002014-05-14T05:27:18.126-07:00Another note on the 20,000 Leagues organ: That is,...Another note on the 20,000 Leagues organ: That is, or was, a Robert Morton brand theatre organ console. As with most theatre organs, it had a "horseshoe" of color-coded tab keys for the stops; on these little two-manual Mortons, the stops are mostly in a straight line, with a curve at each end. Tab-type stop controls existed before theatre organs, but most classical organs had drawknobs.

I've seen an early photo of the finished Nautilus salon in which the console still has tabs. Apparently, someone realized that this wasn't proper; the slightly smaller inset curved jamb was added to cover the slot where the tabs protruded, and was covered with two rows of knobs. Odd thing is, the added wings on the front, with nine knobs each (also not part of the original console) were present, complete with knobs, in the photo showing the console with tabs!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10973360107771972103noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4444762441887107389.post-91930915147854026592013-10-29T08:41:06.006-07:002013-10-29T08:41:06.006-07:00You're welcome, and now you know! You're welcome, and now you know!HBG2https://www.blogger.com/profile/05073387557562504315noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4444762441887107389.post-26901029202376899752013-10-29T04:50:32.290-07:002013-10-29T04:50:32.290-07:00Many thanks for this excellent blog! About six or seven or eight years ago now, I used to frequent Doombuggies quite a lot. I feel out of practice because, after a while, it felt like one pretty much knew everything there was worth knowing about the ride. Reading Long-Forgotten, however, has begun to rekindle those smouldering embers. Thank you so much!

By the way, Doctor of Biblical Studies? Very cool. I only have a Masters of Theological Studies and now I'm starting to wodner where the connection is ^_^Cory Grosshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12141983255020503557noreply@blogger.com
